Fuel prices go crazy
The situation is similar in the U.S.. According to the administration of the Ministry of Energy of the United States in February the price of the most common gas in the U.S. is 3.19 per gallon (one gallon equals 3.78 liters), and a year earlier the price was 2.66 dollars per gallon.
These prices have been very low compared to the average in Europe, which pays between 6.21 and 9.08 dollars per gallon.
According to the European Centre for the traffic information, the countries with the cheapest unleaded petrol in February Latvia - 6.21 dollars per gallon, or € 1.19 per liter, Bulgaria and Estonia, where the price per gallon is 6.28 dollars or 1.20 euros per liter. At the other end are the prices in Norway, where galonat out 9.08 dollars and 1.75 euros per liter is.
One of the main reasons for the big differences in the price of gasoline in the U.S. and Europe are the various taxes and excise duties on fuels in both continents. Total taxes on gasoline in many European countries are about 60% of the cost, while their share of the U.S. rate is only 13%.
Unfortunately, the recent unrest in the Middle East does not bode well for oil prices in the world.
Here are the detailed tables on gasoline prices in Europe and the U.S., published in the edition Carscoop.
